Middleton Potts Closes Landmark Transaction in Mozambique

Senior Banking and Corporate Partner, David Godfrey, led the Middleton Potts team which acted for Portugal’s oldest bank, Montepio Geral, on the sale of the controlling interests of twelve shareholders in one of Mozambique’s premier banks - BDC - Banco de Desenvolvimento e Comércio - to a newly-constituted Mozambique subsidiary of FirstRand Bank Holdings.  The complex transaction governed by English law was announced in Maputo to a large gathering of ministers, diplomats and other dignitaries from the financial and business community in Mozambique.  Click here for the full Press Release.

 

Further Libyan Vessel Acquisitions

Middleton Potts Partner, David Rabagliati, has again acted for Libyan state-owned shipping company, General National Maritime Transport Company, on its recent acquisition of a further four modern oil tankers, two Aframaxes and two product tankers.  The acquisition represents the second phase of GNMTC’s ongoing fleet renewal and expansion programme. Libyan Aframax Purchase

Middleton Potts partner, David Rabagliati, acted for General National Maritime Transport Company, the Libyan State-owned shipping company, on its US$205,000,000 purchase, and the associated financing through Calyon Bank, of three 2002 built 112,000 deadweight ton Aframax oil tankers from the Greek Kollakis Group.  This acquisition represents the first phase of GNMTC’s fleet expansion programme aimed at ensuring that the majority of Libya’s oil and LNG exports are carried in Libyan owned tonnage.  The financing is Libya’s first international bank financing since the end of the embargo in 2004 - Click here for our full Press Release.

One of Germany’s leading banks, HSH Nordbank A.G. (a merger between Hamburgische Landesbank and Landesbank Schleswig Holstein) has selected Middleton Potts for admission to its newly streamlined panel of approved English Solicitors.

Middleton Potts acted for international metals trader, Gerald Metals Inc., in relation to the English Law aspects of Gerald’s recently completed US$ 12-20,000,000 privately placed convertible bond issue.
